While Fire Emblem Heroes has apparently earned Nintendo more money, it’s hard to deny that Super Mario Run has been an impressive success for Nintendo. The mobile title found a huge audience when it debuted on iOS, and the title continues to generate impressive numbers since its recent release on Android.
According to the Google Play Store, Super Mario Run has been downloaded between 50-100 million times on Android platforms. Revenue for a $10 mobile game is certainly lower for Nintendo than a $60 title on Switch, but the company’s hope is that titles like Super Mario Run and their upcoming mobile Animal Crossing title will attract fans to Switch and the 3DS family. Considering that the Niantic-developed Pokémon Go spurred sales of older Pokémon titles on 3DS, it would seem to be a fairly strong strategy!
