Bomberman turns 40 this year. As is fitting an anniversary year like this, Konami is set to release a new game in the series to help celebrate the milestone. While Super Bomberman R 2 had previously been announced back in June of 2022, no one was quite sure when it would be releasing. Now we know: September 12, 2023!
As the trailer shows, R2 is building on the successful framework of Super Bomberman R (and Super Bomberman R Online), but with a whole bunch of features and modes to make it one of the biggest games yet in the series. Familiar modes like Standard, Grand Prix, and Bomber 64 are back, a new one dubbed Castle has been unveiled. Players will be able to either defend or siege a castle, and can even design their own custom keeps to upload online for others to enjoy.
The solo Story Mode also promises an expanded adventure for Bomberman and his new Ellon allies to partake in. Finally, R 2 promises to let players engage in both offline and online multiplayer fun. The game is launching physically on 09.12, but if you want it digital you can wait a day and get it on 09.13. Are you excited to see Bomberman return? Tell us in the comments and online!
