Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hit theaters back on December 10, 2024 and has been a wild success for Paramount and SEGA, grossing $336 million globally thus far at the global box office. What’s more, over the past weekend the Sonic movie franchise as a whole has zoomed north of $1 billion globally across all three films. Gotta go… stacks of cash. Or something. Look, not every pun is going to work, okay?

Ahem, that said, this is great news for fans of the Blue Blur, as SEGA and Paramount are likely chomping at the bit to make more Sonic movies, now. We know that a Sonic 4 film is already in the works, but sitting on a billion dollars might mean even more spinoffs and projects await in the coming years. We’ll leave you this with this quote from the producers Neal H Mortiz and Toby Ascher about hitting this milestone:

“We are so overjoyed with the amazing response to the Sonic the Hedgehog films from audiences and fans around the world, and are proud to be part of the incredible, world-class filmmaking team that has come together to build this franchise. We make these movies for the fans; and their passion, support, and love for these characters is what drives us every day to continue creating the fast, funny, and action-packed stories that make up the ever-expanding Sonic universe.”
