Strong Museum Nominates Metroid as Part of its 2024 Player’s Choice Ballot

The NES classic could be inducted into the museum’s hall of fame!

The Strong National Museum of Play has revealed the list of nominees for its 2024 Player’s Choice Ballot. The winner will be inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame, which is a prestigious collection of some of the finest video games ever produced. Among the games that have been selected is the groundbreaking original Metroid, which launched on NES back in 1987. Here’s the full list, for your perusal:

  • Asteroids (1979)
  • Elite (1984)
  • Guitar Hero (2005)
  • Myst (1993)
  • Neopets (1999)
  • Resident Evil
  • SimCity (1989)
  • Tokimeki Memorial (1994)
  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (1999)
  • Ultima (1981)
  • You Don’t Know Jack (1995)
  • Metroid (1987)

An eclectic assortment, to be sure, and full of very fun, classic games that are all in their own way deserving of recognition. If you’re interested in voting, you can head to this link or the one below and cast your ballot. The polls are open from now until March 21, 2024, so be sure to act quickly if you want your voice heard. The final list of inductees for the class of 2024 will be revealed on Thursday, May 9.
