According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Jack Black takes on the role of hero once again in the upcoming Minecraft movie.
As of January 2nd, along with Jack Black, the current cast includes Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and possibly Jason Momoa. Legendary and Mojang/Microsoft are also reported to be playing a part in producing the film, with Warner Bros. as the distributor. In the past, Legendary had worked with the Pokémon franchise in the creation of the 2019 film, Detective Pikachu, which received positive reception from audiences. No doubt Legendary will be able take Minecraft to the big screen with flying colors.
Jack Black’s most recent video game movie role was that of Bowser in
The Super Mario Bros. Movie produced by Illumination. During the production of
The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo had a guiding hand in the production of the film to ensure that the source material was reflected well in theaters. Has the
Minecraft movie also received similar guidance from Mojang/Microsoft? As of now, there isn’t enough details on of what to expect in the
Minecraft movie other than the recent castings and the fact that the film has been in the works for nearly a decade. The plot has been roughly known to feature “a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers” trying to save the Overworld from the Ender Dragon under director, Peter Sollett. It is unknown if this plotline has changed since current director, Jared Hess, has taken the lead.
