The 51st Maximus Cup will be upon fans this week in Tetris 99—to be specific, the fun kicks off on Jaunary 8 and wraps on January 12, 2026. The theme this time is rather timely, as its centered on the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which launches on January 15, 2026. In case you hadn’t heard, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is going to be getting a big, old overhaul for Nintendo Switch 2, as well as a free update that will be available to both Switch and Switch 2 players. You can check that out right here:
Anyhoo, going back to Maximus Cup 51, it is the usual arrangement that fans have come to know—you’ll have the whole weekend to play, so long as you have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Earn 100 event points and then you’ll be able to permanently unlock the Animal Crossing theme for use as your leisure. Pretty cool, eh?
