Update: GAME has officially opened up its pre-order page for the Shovel Knight Amiibo.
Nintendo has also released a trailer for the figure, which confirms its compatibility with both the Wii U and 3DS versions of Shovel Knight. Using the Amiibo with the former unlocks an entirely new co-op mode, allowing players to play through the adventure with a friend. The figure also unlocks challenge stages and customizable gear in both versions. You can watch the full trailer below.
Original Story: Following rumors that Yacht Club Games’ shovelrous hero Shovel Knight could be appearing as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, UK retailer GAME announced via Twitter today that a Shovel Knight Amiibo would be available for pre-order soon.
Interestingly, the aforementioned tweet has since been deleted, but you can see an image of it below. According to the tweet, the Shovel Knight Amiibo will be released in the UK on November 27 and will unlock content in both the 3DS and Wii U versions of Shovel Knight, as well as additional content in “Nintendo products that Yacht Club Games creates in the future.”
No mention is made of the figure’s compatibility with Super Smash Bros., so it’s still unclear if the new mascot will be joining the Smash roster, but at the very least this is convincing proof that Shovel Knight will be immortalized in Amiibo form. What do you think? Does GAME’s tweet confirm that a Shovel Knight Amiibo is inbound, or are you still skeptical of its existence? Share your thoughts in the comments!
