Nintendo Life has uncovered fresh rumors suggesting that Shovel Knight, the playable character from the game of the same name, may be an upcoming fighter in Super Smash Bros.
The site claims to have heard from multiple retailers that a Super Smash Bros. Shovel Knight announcement is imminent and that a new Amiibo figure will be revealed alongside it. This is not the first rumor suggesting that a Shovel Knight Amiibo has been in the works, with a Spanish retailer recently posting a listing for one; however, the mocked-up image of this was assumed by many to be fake. Indeed, this may be the latest in what seems to be an endless speculation about future Smash Bros. characters, and fans should remember not to get too excited before any confirmation is given by Nintendo.
Perhaps lending credibility to the latest rumor is the fact that Yacht Club Games, the developer behind Shovel Knight, has been teasing of a “megaton” reveal on its site this week. Meanwhile, a press release regarding its latest Plague of Shadows DLC hints at “more exclusive content” for Nintendo platforms that it “might not be quite what you expect.”
Yacht Club intends to show off its latest DLC at PAX, which takes place across the coming weekend. Nintendo will also be attending and will be showing off Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows as part of its Nindies lounge.
What do you think about this latest rumor? Would you want to play as Shovel Knight in Smash Bros., or do you think that the Villager can already handle all of the game’s digging needs? Let us know below.
