According to some new patents, virtual reality may be featured on Nintendo’s upcoming Switch console. These patents, published online here, discuss an HMD (head mounted display) accessory that places the Switch tablet into a 3D-lens-equipped headset. Such a device would bee compatible with the Joycon controllers, and may take advantage of acceleration/angular velocity sensors for head tracking purposes. While published today, these patents were filed way back on June 10.
As always, not everything filed in patents becomes reality, so it’s best to take this news with a grain of salt. However, Nintendo has mentioned it has performed VR research, so who knows what’s in store for the future?
