With the success of Pokémon Go, Fire Emblem Heroes and Super Mario Run, it’s unsurprising to hear that more titles featuring Nintendo characters will see release on smartphones. According to a rumor that originated in the Wall Street Journal, a game based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game will appear on smartphones, while a new title in The Legend of Zelda franchise will also appear on the platform in some form.
Both titles would certainly make sense. Pokémon has a proven audience on smartphones, and with the TCG proving fairly resilient over the years, it could be the perfect title to capture the same nostalgic players that were attracted by Pokémon Go. Additionally, a Zelda title would no doubt help to steer more players towards Switch and Breath of the Wild. A mobile Zelda couldn’t hope to match the scope of the latest title in the franchise, but it could provide a push for players that haven’t purchased Nintendo’s new console. Nintendo has been careful not to step on the toes of their bigger releases, while still providing players with worthwhile experiences, so it will be interesting to see what path the game will take, if the rumors prove true.
If any announcement is to come, we’ll likely have more information during Nintendo’s E3 presentation, next month.

There’s already a Pokemon TCG release that works on cell phones… if you’re running Android and your screen is big enough.
Indeed! This, however, will apparently be a full-fledged mobile version. Which makes a lot of sense!
