Majesco Reveals First Monster Tale Trailer

For those unaware, I am pretty excited about Monster Tale for Nintendo DS. From developer DreamRift — with two of the influential guys behind Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure — Monster Tale puts gamers in control of Ellie as she ventures out on a 2D, Metroidvania experience in a fantastical world. After playing this game at E3, it’s easily one of the most anticipated titles for DS and seems like the perfect swan song for the system as it releases in March.

GameTrailers got the exclusive scoop on the debut trailer, which can be seen below:

For those unfamiliar with the game, you can check out Nintendojo’s prior coverage of the game, which includes the only (off-screen) gameplay footage released.

Nintendo Boasts Strong System Sales in 2010

Nintendo DS is the best-selling video game console of all time in the U.S., according to a press release from the Big N.

The company has sold more than 47 million DS consoles since 2004, when the original (phat) edition was released. But the DS was not the only Nintendo hardware making waves last year. Nintendo Wii sold more than 7 million units in 2010 for the third consecutive year, which is a feat never accomplished before for a home console.

“When we look back at 2010, we see consumers time and again turning to the value and enjoyment of our products,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime in the press release. “When we look ahead to 2011, we see new portable technology and more great Wii games that need to be seen to be believed.”

The new portable technology Fils-Aime refers to is of course Nintendo 3DS, which will be released in March in the U.S. The company will hold a pre-release conference for the handheld Jan. 19, when the finalized release date is expected to be revealed.

It is also important to note that even with the strong overall sales of Wii, the system is continually coming in second place to Xbox 360 in the monthly NPD numbers. While December tallies have yet to be released, November marked the sixth consecutive month for Xbox 360 to lead video game consoles in sales, according to Major Nelson. The landscape has changed quite drastically from the previous years in which Wii greatly outsold its competitors.
