Over the last few years, Renegade Kid has established a strong name for themselves as an indie developer. With titles such as Mutant Mudds and Moon Chronicles under their belt, the team has earned many accolades, and a faithful fanbase.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The studio announced today that co-founders Jools Watsham and Gregg Hargrove are parting ways, with two new development teams forming as a result. Watsham’s Atooi will retain ownership of all 2D titles developed at Renegade Kid, including Mutant Mudds and Treasurenauts. Hargrove’s Infinitzmo will retain ownership of the former developer’s 3D offerings, including Dementium and Moon Chronicles.
Despite the separation, it appears the former partners remain on good terms. Watsham and Hargrove maintain that the decision is mainly a financial one. Based on the way the developer’s properties were split, it seems likely that the new teams were formed based on a desire to focus on 2D and 3D games, respectively. For gamers, hopefully this will result in more strong offerings from two different studios.
