During this weekend’s San Diego Comic Convention, Sega held an event in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. A number of new projects were showcased, including a brand-new, 3D adventure game, headed to the NX in 2017!
The game is tentatively titled Project Sonic 2017. Despite the appearance of the younger, “classic” Sonic that appeared alongside the “current” Sonic in Sonic Generations, Sega cautions that the title is not a sequel. The game is, however, being handled by the team behind Generations and Sonic Colors, so hopefully it will feature the same level of quality as those two titles!
In addition to the Project Sonic 2017 announcement, Sega also showcased a number of other upcoming projects. A 2D title, Sonic Mania, was announced for PS4 and Xbox One, though no announcement for Wii U or NX has been made, at this time. Sega also showed off the character’s upcoming appearance in Lego Dimensions as well. The expansion for that title will release November 18.
For the first time in a long time, it looks like Sonic the Hedgehog’s future could be a bright one. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
