After almost three years of hearing nothing about the Wii U experiment, Nintendo has officially confirmed that Project Giant Robot has been cancelled.
Speaking to Polygon, Nintendo explained that they “made this decision after considering our overall product and development strategy”.
Project Giant Robot was originally announced at E3 2014 and was shown off alongside what would eventually become Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard. It saw players use the Wii U GamePad to control a giant robot as it rampaged through a city.
The game was intended to show off the unique capabilities of the GamePad and, with Wii U production having officially ended, it is no surprise to hear that the project has been scrapped.
With most development having moved over to the upcoming Switch, hopefully Nintendo will be able to use something of Project Giant Robot as part of a new game on that platform.
