Pokkén Tournament has gotten quite a following since it dropped last year, but despite the love from fans, it fell short of being featured at the upcoming EVO competition. Titles like Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U have become mainstays at the event, and Pokkén Tournament was hoping to claim enough votes to occupy the final open slot on the roster of titles that will be played at EVO 2017. Sadly, it was just shy of making the cut and was beat out by Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Thankfully, there is a silver lining to this disappointment. EVO raises quite a bit of money for charity, and as a nod of respect to Pokkén Tournament’s strong showing in the polls, $10,000 will be donated in the title’s name in support of individual tournaments revolving around the game throughout the year. Maybe next time!
