Pop star Katy Perry and the Universal Music Group (UMG) is partnering up with The Pokémon Company to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pokémon. The celebration will include activities in the video game series, mobile apps, animation, merchandise, and more! The Pokémon Company has kickstarted the event with the video below.

UMG, with music artists from around the world, is working on a title called P25 with Katy Perry as the main contributor. P25 is planned to be a massive, year-long music campaign. According to Katy Perry,

“Pokémon has been a constant in my life from playing the original video games on my Game Boy, to trading Pokémon TCG cards at lunch, to the adventures of catching Pokémon on the street with Pokémon GO. I’ve even visited the Pokémon Café in Japan while on tour! It is an honor to be chosen to help celebrate a franchise that has given me so much joy in the last 25 years, and to be able to watch it evolve in the ways it’s provided that kind of electric joy for the kids in my life and around the world”

Along with music, The Pokemon Company is partnering up with various companies to create unique merchandise. Collaborations include Build-A-Bear Workshop, Levi’s, McDonald’s, and more. Special merchandise will be available from Jazwares, Scholastic, Mattel, Funko, Power A, and The Wand Company. Additional partnerships will be announced later in the year.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) will see a 25th anniversary-themed collection this year along with oversize cards of Pikachu and other starter Pokémon from later generations such as Froakie, Torchic, Rowlet, and Sobble.

What has been revealed so far is reported to be just “a glimpse into what the world can expect from Pokémon in 2021.” There are plans for 25th anniversary related events in animation, video games, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon Masters EX. More announcements will hopefully come soon.
