While it’s been a very strong year for Nintendo, 2017 has also been a terrific year for video game art books. From The Legend of Zelda: Art and Artifacts to the upcoming Art of Splatoon, some of the greatest franchises in gaming have been well represented on book shelves. Now it’s Pokémon’s turn with an art book dedicated to the long-running Pokémon Adventures manga.
The Pokémon Adventures manga kicked off shortly after the release of Pokémon Red and Green in Japan. Since then, the series has covered every main release in the franchise. While the book will apparently solely focus on the art of Satoshi Yamamoto (who came on during the Gold, Silver and Crystal storyline), The Art of Pokémon Adventures will apparently cover every Pokémon generation in full-color art. The book will also feature story boards, concept sketches, four posters and a side story that has never previously been released in English!
While other Pokémon comics took some liberties with the designs of the characters and cast, Pokémon Adventures has long been lauded for its faithfulness to the video games. Satoshi Tajiri, creator of the Pokémon franchise, has praised the series in interviews calling it “the comic that most resembles the world I was trying to convey.”
The Art of Pokémon Adventures is scheduled for release from Viz Media August 8. Do you plan on picking up the release? Let us know in the comments below!
