Okami is one of the finest offerings from defunct Capcom studio Clover Studio. The game mashes elements of Japanese folklore with some of the play mechanics of The Legend of Zelda series, all rendered in a spectacular watercolor visual style. Considering the original Okami was launched on PlayStation 2 back in 2006, it’s astounding how fresh the game still feels compared to its contemporaries. The title has been rereleased on practically every system under the sun and, thankfully, Switch will be the next platform to be graced by Okami.
The only catch, sadly, has been that there doesn’t seem to be any indication from Capcom that Okami HD will be coming in physical form to the platform. Despite launching with a physical disc on PlayStation 4, fans in North America and Europe probably shouldn’t hold their breath for an actual cartridge in their respective regions. For our Japanese brethren, however, that is a different story entirely.
In Japan, consumers are being treated to a plethora of physical bundles of Okami HD on Switch. From buying options with soundtrack CDs to zipper cases, the variety is uncanny, and makes this writer more than a little bit envious. You can see all of the different packages here, and note that there is a silver lining in the form of Switch’s region-free nature. If the game has an English language option, you could easily import the cartridge and play it in your region. If you speak Japanese… well, lucky you!
Okami HD drops on August 9.
