The Virtual Console is arguably the star of this week’s Nintendo Download, with a great selection of classic games, but of course that’s not all on offer. The full list is available now on both the Wii U and 3DS, but read on for a selection of some of this week’s biggest and best.

Wii U Virtual Console

Super Mario 64 DS – $9.99 – The release of this game might come as a surprise to some of you, as Super Mario 64 (the N64 classic) is already available on the Wii U Virtual Console. The DS version was released alongside the handheld in 2004 and not only includes the excellent original adventure, it also features multiple playable characters (Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi), a multiplayer mode, and a number of enjoyable minigames. Incidentally, it’s also available at the same price as the original N64 game.

3DS Download

The Legend of Kusakari – $4.99 – This features a logo and artistic look that share plenty of similarities with the Legend of Zelda series, but the game has a fairly unique concept beyond that. Players take on the role of a hero whose job it is to cut down all of the grass on the battlefield, so that the proper heroes can fight off the enemies. It has a cute art style, fun humor, and a surprising array of features. The main story of the game isn’t the longest, but there’s more to do after that and it’s great value for the price.

New 3DS Virtual Console

Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers – $7.99 – This week sees the release of a whopping three Street Fighter “2” games: Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper FightingStreet Fighter Alpha 2, and Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers. The decision to feature the latter of those could be divisive– hardcore fans may prefer the balance and execution of SF2: Turbo, but if you are considering picking up the game now and somehow haven’t played it yet, Super SF2: The New Challengers has a slightly bigger roster to play with (it also has different animations and sound effects which you may or may not prefer). Each Street Fighter game released this week costs the same, though, so the choice is yours!

3DS eShop

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice Demo – Free – Take on the role of Phoenix Wright and Co. again in the demo of the upcoming Phoenix Wright game. This features classic Phoenix Wright gameplay and takes place in a section from the game’s first courtroom meeting in the Kingdom of Khura’in. It is already out in Japan, but this will hopefully tide over western gamers until the full game’s release on September 8.

There’s a good variety of things to download then, and that’s not even considering the Summer Savings event, which is still on for one more week.
