Capcom puts the kibosh on physical copies, at least in North America.

Hope you’ve got some extra space on your SD cards!

Despite previously being open to a physical release of the upcoming Phoenix Wright game, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, those dreams seem to be officially dashed. Series producer Motohide Eshiro confirmed, as a part of a fan Q&A session, that Dual Destinies will be a digital-only release.

Eshiro expounds that, due to the fact that localization takes time, and Capcom’s warnings about physical copies possibly compromising the price that the game is at now, it would not be a wise move to release the game in stores. This way, manufacturing the game will be quicker, allowing it to land in the hands of fans much sooner.

Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies is due to hit the Nintendo eShop in the west sometime in the fall. No concrete date has been announced as of yet.

Not a huge deal for me. True, I ALWAYS opt to purchase physical copies of a game if available. If not, just as easy as a decision. I have no choice if I want it.

I have a good solution. Why not release it on the eShop, and then have a special Collector’s Edition of the game that has to be ordered straight from Capcom? That way, there’s no mass production and those who want physical copies can get them.

But they would still have to create a somewhat mass just in case of interest. It would cost Capcom more to keep going back to order more physical copies than make them off the bat.

So have it very limited? Then physical versions of Phoenix Wright 5 could become somewhat of a valuable item to have. I know it won’t happen, but I’m sad because I really wanted a cartridge…

I can completely relate to wanting to have a cart. But unless don’t start off by telling the public a physical copy will have X amount made, it’s hard to estimate the right amount to make.

I called it for awhile that this was not gonna happen and lucky for me I was gonna get a bigger SD Card so that way I can download Soul Hackers this weekend. But now the next question: I’m calling for a 40 dollar price tag on this game but am I going off base?
