Long time Zelda fans no doubt remember the fun, but often under appreciated Four Swords Adventures, which brought four player gameplay to the Zelda universe. With the announcement of The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, Nintendo has revealed it will once again be revisiting that concept, albeit with one less player and a lot more style.
Coming in the fall of this year for Nintendo 3DS, Tri Force Heroes will allow three players to work together to solve puzzles and battle bosses. While Four Swords had a strong competitive element as players tried to collect more rupees than one another, Tri Force Heroes will have a stronger cooperative focus. Players will be able to stack up to create three Link high totems, allowing them access to out-of-reach areas or get the proper vantage point on a boss’ weakness.
The other big addition to Tri Force Heroes is a costume system. The game takes place in a fashion conscious world and each new outfit will give Link new perks and abilities. Of the costumes that have been revealed so far, some look rather self explanatory, like the Big Bomb Outfit and the Spin Attack Attire, while others are a little less obvious. For example, the Lucky Loungewear appears to make it so some hits won’t damage the wearer. Another clip also appears to show an outfit that looks a lot like Princess Zelda’s dress.
Tri Force Heroes looks to be borrowing the same basic aesthetic and mechanics from 2013’s A Link Between Worlds, but seeing how it has the same director, Hiromasa Shikata, that shouldn’t be a surprise. Considering how that game was nothing short of phenomenal, I don’t think anybody is going to complain.
Seeing as how Nintendo is once again doing its Treehouse Live showings at E3, it probably won’t be too long before you get to see more of Tri Force Heroes. And even if the company doesn’t show it, the title’s fall release date isn’t really all that far off. We’re bound to see and hear something before then, so be sure to keep on the lookout.

It will be interesting to see what this will be like if you are playing singleplayer.
Online co-op sounds interesting though – I like how they casually mentioned that it’s included!
