Splatoon fans who were excited to take part in the game’s first Splatfest will, unfortunately, have to wait a little longer, as Nintendo has announced via Twitter that it will be postponing the event indefinitely.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Splatfests are periodical events that take place in Splatoon. Players align themselves with one of two opposing teams and compete throughout the day to earn the most points. The first North American Splatfest was scheduled to take place tomorrow, June 20, but according to Nintendo, a matchmaking error cropped up during the Japanese equivalent of the event, which resulted in long wait times and, in some instances, even prevented players from joining matches. In order to iron out these issues, the company has decided to delay the Splatfest indefinitely. We’ll have more details on the event when they are announced.
Fortunately, not all of today’s Splatoon-related news is negative; Nintendo has also announced that a new multiplayer map called Bluefin Depot will be debuting tonight! The map goes live at 7 PM Pacific Time.
Were you looking forward to the first Splatfest? Are you going to try the game’s new map out tonight? Let us know in the comments!

I’ll gladly take the postponement over the waiting-forever-just-to-get-into-a-4-vs-1 that apparently plagued the Japanese one.
It may be that Nintendo underestimated the sell out of Splatoon and therefore underestimated the server volume that comes with it.
