Mario worlds collide in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam for Nintendo 3DS! The Mario & Luigi universe is turned upside down when the contents of Paper Mario’s storybook spill out into their world (thanks to yet another blunder of Luigi’s), sending the three heroes on an exciting crossover adventure! Through combining Mario & Luigi’s acrobatic feats and Paper Mario’s paper-thin constitution, all three heroes traverse across both worlds through timed attacks, giant papercraft weapons, and even multiplying copies of Paper Mario! Paper Peach and Paper Bowser also make appearances (the latter, as expected, not giving his M&L counterpart a warm welcome), as have Kamek, the recurring Starlow from Mario & Luigi, and even Petey Piranha!
Nintendo just finished their first Treehouse Stream for the game and it’s proving to be quite the crossover! The battle system alone looks to be the most exciting in either franchise yet, as timed attacks are made all the more difficult and exciting through the “multiplying” technique. Paper Mario himself is host to unique actions not just on the field (flutter jump!), but special attacks involving paper shurikens and exciting games of racquetball. For all those burned out by Paper Mario: Sticker Star, you’ll be glad to know that experience points are alive and well, and if you thought Mario & Luigi: Dream Team had too many tutorials, don’t fret; it’s looking like you can skip ’em this time around. The trailer also features a massive papercraft Mario mowing down construction-board Goombas, but we currently don’t know the context behind that other than that it involves full-fledged, fast-paced 3D movement.
