Nintendo recently announced on its official Twitter account that it will soon be allowing “proactive” creators of Let’s Play videos featuring Nintendo games to share in the ad revenue generated.
Ad revenue from these videos will be split between Nintendo, YouTube, and the creator. Those looking to take advantage of the program will require special permission from Nintendo. Further details “will be announced in the future.”
This follows on from the backlash Nintendo received last year when it began claiming ad revenue from YouTube Let’s Play videos. This new program looks to be an attempt by Nintendo to reward those video creators who continue to play and promote the company’s games.
Does this program make up for Nintendo’s past behaviour, or is it just a nice gesture that really didn’t even need to be made? Share your thoughts below.
