It had been circling as a rumor since the NES catalogue of games was introduced to Nintendo Switch Online and has only grown in tenacity since various datamines and trademarks have been brought to light. Now, we can confirm that Super Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online is coming tomorrow, September 5. The new library will be available for free to anyone with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Here are the 20 games that will be available as described by Nintendo:
-
Super Mario World
-
Super Mario Kart
-
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
-
Super Metroid
-
Stunt Race FX (Available for the first time since its original Super NES release!)
-
Kirby’s Dream Land 3
-
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
-
Star Fox
-
F-Zero
-
Pilotwings
-
Kirby’s Dream Course
-
Brawl Brothers
-
Breath of Fire
-
Demon’s Crest
-
Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics
-
Super E.D.F. Earth Defense Force
-
Super Ghouls’n Ghosts
-
Super Puyo Puyo 2 (Available for the first time in the U.S.!)
-
Super Soccer (Available for the first time since its original Super NES release!)
-
Super Tennis (Available for the first time since its original Super NES release!)
That’s a great (albeit mostly safe) selection of titles, particularly thanks to some of the oddities like Super Puyo Puyo 2 and Stunt Race FX. What’s more, beyond the games there will also be an opportunity to purchase a new, wireless SNES controller. Noticeably Nintendo seems to have ditched the odd sliders on the wireless NES pads it had released for the NES library of games; these new SNES controllers charge via a cable, instead. Preorders aren’t live yet (we’ll update once they are), but keep in mind that only Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can buy them and there’s a limit of four per customer (at $29.99 a pop). Are you happy to SNES come to Switch? What games do you hope will become available in the future? Share on social media and in the comments!
