Before the title made its debut, Nintendo held a Global Testfire for Splatoon on Wii U. The online demo allowed players across the world to try the game’s main online multiplayer mode weeks before its release date. This March, Splatoon 2 will receive a similar treatment, giving Switch owners a chance to check out the upcoming sequel.
New IPs tend to be a bit of a risk for publishers, but the Global Testfire helped show off the original Splatoon‘s greatest strength. Nintendo held multiple Global Testfire demos throughout the Wii U’s lifespan, likely playing a significant role in the title’s worldwide success. Splatoon proved to be a system seller, particularly in Japan, and it may not have found such a large audience otherwise.
Splatoon 2‘s Global Testfire will run from March 24-26. There will be six different play times available. Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more information as it develops!
