Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are right around the corner, so Nintendo has started to detail how these new games will expand upon the stellar foundation started with last year’s critically acclaimed entries in the long running series. Today, a new trailer and interview in Japan’s Famitsu magazine has revealed quite a bit about these new games’ story and expanded setting.

In this interview, director Kazumasa Iwao reiterated that the new games don’t serve as a direct sequel, instead they tell a different story that appears to utilize many familiar characters and locations alongside brand-new aspects. The idea of other dimensions and Ultra Beasts will apparently be introduced earlier in the game with the interdimensional Ultra Expedition Team appearing shortly after the game begins. Also, the player will traverse Ultra wormholes throughout the game to visit different worlds, an activity that appears to involve the new “Ultra Warp Ride” mechanic which, based on the trailer, might involve riding legendary Pokémon through the wormholes. Altogether, the director stated Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will see more substantial changes from its immediate predecessors than previous third versions, like Platinum and Emerald.

The interview also suggested a few more tweaks more directly related to the gameplay. Game Freak intends on making the process of catching and raising your Pokémon easier while boss fights might prove harder as the developers want to do a better job of rewarding smart, strategic play while simultaneously punishing poor planning. Also, Iwao confirmed Mewtwo would appear in the game and you can catch him.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are scheduled to release on November 17.
