While people have been debating Nintendo’s online efforts for well over a decade now, few can deny the level of success it’s had with its first multiplayer focused shooter, Splatoon. Both the game and its sequel have been successful around the world, but they have proven especially popular in Japan as Nintendo has helped foster the game’s community. One way of doing this has been taking fan designed outfits from magazine contests and turning them into in-game apparel.
Previously, Nintendo partnered with popular gaming magazine Famitsu to help bring fan art to life in-game, but this time around they are going through manga magazine CoroCoro. A contest in the publication resulted in a win for the fan-designed “Mecha Gear” outfit, and players will be able to put it on thanks to a download code that will be distributed in an issue that will go on sale on April 25.
These codes will likely be tied to the Japanese version of the game, but players elsewhere don’t have to worry. Previous contest winning designs eventually made their way around the world via other means so there’s little reason to expect this time will be any different.
