A couple of weeks ago, we brought to you the news that 7th Dragon III Code: VFD would be coming to North America this summer. Sega appears to be looking to build momentum for the game, because the publisher has released a new trailer showing off more of the game, including more about the story.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, it started life as a DS JRPG with adorable character designs and an emphasis on dungeon crawling through a dragon-infested fantasy world. Over the intervening years the series has changed quite a bit, moving into a more contemporary setting with more realistic visuals, though the emphasis on dragon-cide remains. This newest entry appears to continue the more recent entries style while adding some twists. This time, the game’s main setting is in a near future version of Tokyo, but the inclusion of time travel means that won’t be the only place in space-time that you’ll visit. What remains the same, however, is your quest to destroy the dragons threatening the continued existence of mankind. One unique twist is that the group trying to stop the dragon, Nodens Enterprises, is actually a video game developer, so it will be interesting to see how that might play into the story.
Based on this new trailer, 7th Dragon III Code: VFD looks like it will be a colorful addition to 3DS’s already impressive JRPG library. In addition to the colorful cast of anime-inspired characters, the settings look quite vibrant and unique, something that’s vital in keeping a player’s interest in a game that promises lots of dungeon diving. If the core gameplay proves as good as the visual presentation, this could be a very interesting title for RPG fans to keep an eye on in the coming months.
Be sure to check back for more on 7th Dragon III Code: VFD as Sega pulls back the current between now and summer.
