Monster Hunter fans eager to slay even more hulking prehistoric beasts will soon get another opportunity to do so; during today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, Nintendo announced that the newest entry in the Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Generations, will be coming to Western shores in summer 2016.
Released in Japan as Monster Hunter X (Cross), Generations differs slightly from previous Monster Hunter games. While the core gameplay will be familiar to Monster Hunter veterans, this time around, players will be able to customize their avatars with new special abilities called Hunter Arts, while Hunter Styles will offer greater diversity in combat. You can watch the first English trailer for Monster Hunter Generations below.
To promote the latest title, the series’ previous installment, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (which earned an honorable mention in our Best 3DS Games of 2015 awards), will be on sale for 48 hours in the 3DS eShop for $19.99. As an added incentive to pick it up, fans who play Monster Hunter Generations on a 3DS that has save data for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will receive extra content in the upcoming title.
And if that weren’t reason enough to get excited for Monster Hunter Generations, Nintendo also announced that the game will feature a special set of armor based on Marth from the Fire Emblem series.
