Mario Kart has a tradition stretching back to SNES of appearing on every Nintendo platform, be it mobile or home (or in Switch’s case, both!). Now, the company has announced that the series will branch out to mobile for the first time in the form of Mario Kart Tour:
The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! #MarioKartTour Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019. pic.twitter.com/8GIyR7ZM4z

The game doesn’t have a set release window beyond the end of Nintendo’s fiscal year in March of 2019, which puts the title over a year out. We’ll likely see more details about it in the near(ish) future, either in a Direct broadcast or during E3. Or… maybe not. Nintendo does like to play its mobile game close to the chest, after all. Still, the company has a pretty solid record so far on smart devices with its various releases to date, so hopes are high that we’ll get a fairly faithful version of Mario Kart when Tour finally releases!
