Who had this one on their Switch release bingo card for 2023? The year is very nearly over and here comes Nintendo with a last-minute surprise: Jet Force Gemini is coming to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack in December. For the uninitiated, Jet Force Gemini is a third-person shooter. Unlike most Nintendo-made games, it’s notable for having a harder edge and being more violent than other software from the publisher.
The announcement was made on the company’s X account, which you can see here:

Jet Force Gemini launched on Nintendo 64 back in 1999. The game was developed by Rare, which has always resulted in some weirdness for rereleases of the company’s software ever since it was sold to Microsoft back in 2002. The Donkey Kong Country trilogy was in seeming limbo for years over at Nintendo before finally becoming a mainstay in the company’s various online services, but other titles from Rare’s N64-years of output have been mostly missing in action.
The only exception to that has been the rerelease of Banjo-Kazooie. When that came to Switch Online it was something of an event given BK is now a fully owned property of Microsoft. With the impending rerelease of Jet Force Gemini, it would seem that the companies are not quite done with their collaboration. Hopefully, we’ll eventually see the likes of Donkey Kong 64, Diddy Kong Racing, and other N64 classics from Rare.
Once we have the release date, we’ll let you all know. In the interim, let us know what you think of Jet Force Gemini making a comeback!
