Sonic the Hedgehog fans have been subjected to a rough few years. While Sega has provided fans with a few strong options since the blue blur started appearing on Nintendo systems, none have quite matched the old-school charm of the original Sega Genesis titles. Developer GalaxyTrail’s upcoming title Freedom Planet takes quite a bit of inspiration from those classic games, and the Wii U title appears to finally be within sight.
In Freedom Planet, protagonists Lilac, Carol, and Milla, are tasked with saving their world from the evil Lord Brevon. The title began life as an unofficial Sonic game before the team decided to head in a different direction. Since then, Freedom Planet has been highlighted by Nintendo as part of its Nindies@Home program, which offered a number of indie game demos during the week of E3. For more information on Freedom Planet, take a look at our exclusive interview with the game’s producer, Stephen DiDuro! Or check out the game’s most recent trailer, which we’ve mirrored below!
Freedom Planet will speed on to Wii U consoles on August 3. Do you plan on downloading the title? As always, let us know what you think in the comments below!

No plans to download it yet, but perhaps. It was an OK demo though. Kind of burned out on Sonic stuff.
