While Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two shows promise, especially after playing with the Wii U version for the first time, a couple of features are sadly missing. At a preview event on Tuesday, a game producer confirmed that Off-TV Play will not be available.
The missing feature not only means that players can’t play the game solely via the Wii U GamePad, it also means the game’s touted co-op mode is relegated to split-screen, at least locally. The producer said Off-TV Play was something Junction Point Studios wanted to implement, but time restraints led to its omission.
In addition, solo gamers must utilize the GamePad, as Wii Remote and Nunchuk support is only available for player two. If you prefer playing with the original’s controller setup, your only option appears to be the Wii version.
Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two releases for Wii and Wii U on November 18.
This is a perfect epilogue to the “Game Delays That Didn’t Matter” piece. Release it when it’s done and polished, don’t cripple it just to get it out on launch day! My interest in this game just went from “maybe” to “meh”.
I can’t speak for the remote play option, but as someone who’s done homebrew Wii development, the lack of control options is baffling. It’s incredibly easy to wire up various Wii controller and accessory inputs. I can only imagine it’s even easier with official Nintendo development tools. I doubt the decision to cripple controller support was a technical or time one; sounds like typical narrow-minded management to me.
So laaaaameeee!
You gotta wonder Why! I was only planning a 3DS by anyway but that is lame for wii owners.
