When Mortal Kombat 11 was announced for Switch, it came across as somewhat of a surprise. The franchise has recently pushed a lot of polygons in an effort to make its gruesome fights as beautifully brutal as possible, so it was only natural to assume the team at NetherRealm Studios might skip Nintendo’s less powerful platform. Now it’s beginning to look like the game’s roster of DLC will be a lot less of a surprise thanks to the efforts of dataminers.
Some folks have apparently gotten their hands on the code for the upcoming fighter and have already delved into the data to discover which fighters will be joining the fray. Naturally, a number of series characters will likely be returning: Shang Tsung, Sheeva, Fujin, Sindel, Nightwolf, and Frost. The more interesting news is the revelation of the characters coming from other properties, which include Ash from the Evil Dead movies (no, not Pokémon), the Terminator from The Terminator, gritty comic book hero Spawn, and Batman’s greatest foe, the Joker.
Of course, we are still waiting for official announcements but this list seems to make a lot of sense. The series has a history of including classic horror icons from films like Friday the 13th, and Alien. Also, the studio previously developed DC Comics’ fighting franchise, Injustice, so Joker seems like a natural fit. Mortal Kombat 11 releases on Switch April 23.
