Last year, Japanese developer 5pb announced a 3DS port of the cult classic title Corpse Party. After all this time, it seemed unlikely that the game would reach our shores, but once again Xseed will bring a smaller market title to North American gamers!
Any release would have been welcome for the horror-adventure title, but fans can look forward to both a digital and physical release for Corpse Party. The digital version will set fans back $29.99, but the physical release will retail for $20 more. The physical, “Back to School” edition, however, will be accompanied by a CD soundtrack and a pair of figures based on the characters Naomi Nakashima and Seiko Shinohara.
In Corpse Party, an earthquake opens beneath Kisaragi Academy, unearthing a demolished Elementary School haunted by the ghosts of murdered staff and students. As their sanity and physical wellbeing are threatened, a group of friends must survive and uncover the mystery of what happened. The game uses 16-bit sprites, and offers the same, unedited voice acting from the PSP version of the game. Given the game’s darker subject matter, it has received a “Mature” rating from the ESRB.
Corpse Party will release on Nintendo 3DS this summer. Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more information as it develops!
