Japanese publisher 5pb has announced a Nintendo 3DS port of Corpse Party, a cult classic title that appeared on the Sony PSP a few years ago. The horror-adventure title should arrive sometime later this year.
In Corpse Party, an earthquake opens beneath Kisaragi Academy, unearthing Heavenly Host Elementary School, a demolished building haunted by the ghosts of murdered children. A group of friends must survive as their sanity and physical wellbeing are threatened. The game uses 16-bit sprites, and features some RPG elements. Actions in the game can result in a number of different endings, some more gruesome than others. Given the game’s darker subject matter, it received a “Mature” rating from the ESRB upon original release.
Publisher Xseed handled localization of the PSP version and its sequel, so hopefully we’ll see the title arrive in the US sometime in the near future, as well. Considering that the original title is a few years old at this point, we should see some optimization for the 3DS hardware, though details remain sparse at this time.
Stay tuned to Nintendojo where we’ll have more information on the title in the coming months!
