It’s been quite the roller coaster ride for Nintendo fans interested in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Thankfully, it appears the Castlevania spiritual successor from Koji Igarashi will arrive on Switch in early 2018.

The news stems from a recent graphic released by Nintendo of Europe, which featured the logo for Bloodstained alongside several other previously announced indie games headed to Switch. While developer Inti Creates has yet to officially confirm, it would certainly line up with some of Igarashi’s statements to IGN back in October:

“Yeah, it’s a very complicated problem. The reality is this: As timelines move on, certain pieces of hardware become irrelevant. Sometimes new pieces of hardware come out that make you think about what is the right strategy. And as a creator, usually you want to make stuff for the new hardware. That’s the reality.”

The timing of Nintendo Switch’s release has caused a bit of a headache for a handful of Kickstarter-backed titles, as Nintendo’s focus shift from Wii U to Switch left some developers with a no-win situation: either release their title on a dying system, or move it to a newer system and risk alienating backers who didn’t purchase a Switch. Inti Creates likely made the right call overall, but situations such as these may lead to backers thinking twice before donating to future Kickstarter campaigns.

Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more information on Bloodstained as the game’s 2018 release date approaches!
