The grandfather of video game consoles, Atari, is turning 50. To mark this golden anniversary, Atari is working with Digital Eclipse to release a special collection: Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration. This compilation will have a staggering 90-plus games for players to experience. The list hasn’t been finalized, but here are the consoles which will be providing the games:
- Atari 2600
- Atari 5200
- Atari 7800
- Atari ST
- Jaguar
- Lynx
The Jaguar and Lynx are especially intriguing additions, as those games have yet to be officially released in any capacity on modern consoles. Take a look at this first trailer for Atari 50 for more details:

Atari rings in its 50th anniversary with a brand new game; not just any game, however— an interactive history of the brand told through never-before-seen interviews, playable versions of never-released titles, legacy concept art, developer diaries, and a collection of reimagined classics built from the ground up that honor the golden age of video games.
In Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, you’ll get an inside look at Atari‘s past, present, and a glimpse into the future from the creative individuals who set the games industry as we know it today into motion. The remarkable collection is coming to PC and consoles later this year.
This sounds like a game preservationist’s ultimate dream come true. Particularly the proposition of being able to play versions of never-released software. There’s no firm release date for Atari 50 beyond 2022, but once we hear more about the launch date and full games list, we’ll let you all know.
