Each year, Metacritic puts together its ranking of the best publishers in the video game industry. Metacritic has published its 15th such list for 2024 and of the 37 publishers represented, Nintendo only managed to snag the 22nd position. You can see the full list right below:

For Nintendo, this is the lowest place the company has ever secured on this list, making 2024 something of a disappointment. Nintendo’s overall score was 76, which isn’t terrible, certainly, but it’s also not all that impressive. By contrast, longtime competitor SEGA claimed the top spot with an 82.9. In fairness to Nintendo, the company didn’t publish a ton of games in 2024, but it’s evident that what did come out was perhaps not quite at the usual level of quality that fans are accustomed to.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was the best-performing title for the company with an 88, but the mustachioed one’s other games were all in the 70-point range. So, not quite the stellar performance that Nintendo and its fans are used to, at least from a critical standpoint. What do you think of Nintendo not making the top 20 publishers in 2024?
