My gaming backlog was relatively under control until Christmas as well, but like you mentioned there are so many cheap Wii games around now, and I completely gave in. Muramasa was only £15, Pikmin (New Play Control) was only £5 and Fragile Dreams was £12. I have no idea what those prices are in dollars, but as you say, they’re almost too good to pass up when they’re so cheap. I’ve also just gone on a huge indie game binge on Steam, putting my backlog somewhere in the 30 game area (and I’ve got about six games I want to replay too). It’s ridiculous!
One of my new year’s resolutions in 2010 was to cut my backlog list down to 10 games (from 20) before I bought a new one – it worked, but it’s totally got out of hand again. I think I might have to re-instate it for 2012! XD
My backlog is an absolute mess. I’m a compulsive collector so I buy games continuously and find myself having less and less time and energy to devote to playing them. Still, I tell myself that the primary reason I buy games is to give myself the chance to play it, should I ever want to. I don’t always buy games because I *will* play them, but rather because I would play them. :)
Here is my master list, which you’ve all given me the idea to highlight the ones I’ve completed, or otherwise put in a significant amount of time into (if it’s a game that you don’t really “beat”):
