5. Staryu and Starmie

These seem innocuous enough, but these aren’t just starfish– they actually seem to be from the stars. Both of them are also perfectly geometrical no matter where they grow or live, something which is almost unheard of. In the centre of Staryu’s body resides a glowing red jewel, which beats with the same rhythm as a human heartbeat. This suggests that it is somehow related in some way to humans. It can also regenerate as long as this jewel is intact. So, regeneration and a heartbeat…what’s weird about that?

Well, Staryu can also change its colour, harden its skin and…alter its mass? That should be impossible. Nothing on Earth can do that consciously. Well, that’s just it, it may not be from Earth after all. It’s pretty much accepted that Staryu and Starmie are from space. Where exactly, or why they came to Earth is a mystery (along with Clefairy) but at night they float to the surface of the sea, and align themselves perfectly with the stars. This is all weird and freaky, but not really…scary. Until you consider Starmie.

Starmie’s jewel core shines with the colours of the rainbow, much as Staryu’s glows red. It pretty much has the same abilities as Staryu except for transmitting radio waves into outer space. WAIT, WHAT?! Yes, that’s right, aliens have come to Earth, and they’re in constant conversation with their homeworld each night. Are they the heralds of an invasion? Or are they simply stranded and sending a distress signal? True, they make good Pokémon and obey their Trainers, but what if that’s simply gaining our trust before they turn on us…?
