The rumor mill had been churning back in March that SEGA had a Definitive Edition of Sonic Frontiers cooking in the background. Various ratings have popped up all but confirming the game’s existence. Then, yesterday, SEGA finally announced that Sonic Frontiers – Definitive Edition is indeed a thing, and it’s on Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s available… right now!
Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition strives to correct the performance woes that plagued the Nintendo Switch version of the game from back in 2022. SEGA is promising improved visuals and performance, as well as the inclusion of all previously released DLC. Players will also be able to choose between performance and graphics modes, allowing the game to be tailored to their tastes. Save files from the Switch version can be carried over to the Switch 2 edition.
That all sounds great, but there’s one unfortunate caveat: no upgrade path for those who own the original Sonic Frontiers on Switch. You’ll have to spend the $49.99 MSRP to access this upgraded version. Sigh. It’s available now in the eShop, so if you’re inclined to take a return trip to the Starfall Islands, you can do so straight away.
