There was a cloud of disappointment that wafted through the air back when Square Enix announced that cloud versions of the Kingdom Hearts series would be coming to Nintendo Switch. That was about a million years ago in 2021, when it was revealed that series star Sora would be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. During the recent Nintendo Direct, however, Nintendo has revealed that things would finally be set right with the impending launch of actual, native ports of the series to Switch 2 (which had been rumored since 2024). Here’s the announcement:
Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] will be dropping on October 8, 2026. Here’s everything that you get:

- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
- Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance
- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage –
- Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover
- Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC)
This will get players up to speed for the other big announcement, which was that Kingdom Hearts IV is also heading to Nintendo Switch 2 at launch. Give the trailer a peep:
That’s pretty cool, right? All of the Kingdom Hearts series will be there for players to enjoy on Nintendo Switch 2 once IV hits the console. Now, a couple of more pragmatic points to cover before we go: first, if you already own the cloud versions of these Kingdom Hearts games, you’ll be able to get the ports at a 50 percent discount. Second, the cloud versions of the Kingdom Hearts series will no longer be playable come June 9, 2027, and are also no longer available for purchase via the eShop. It’s actually pretty lame for those who are playing these games, warts and all, on their Nintendo Switch consoles, as they’re left in something of a lurch. The games they paid for will essentially just be cut off to them with no proper recompense. This is why we always preach to buy physical when you can, folks.
