Sonic the Hedgehog continues to be a box office smash, with his first three films totaling over a billion dollars at the global box office. The last movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, was the highest-grossing of the (so far) trilogy, swiping $492 million from the pockets of moviegoers. Needless to say, Paramount, producer of the Sonic film franchise, is eager to see the good times continue to roll, so it isn’t surprising to hear that the studio has plans in place for a fifth movie.
What’s that? Where’s the fourth film? It was announced around the time that Sonic 3 had hit theaters and was originally going to be launching on March 19, 2027. However, it’s been reported that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will be coming out a little later than expected on December 22, 2027. The fifth film, which is allegedly a spin-off of some sort, is slotted for December 22, 2028. It seems Paramount wants to keep the franchise within that sweet Christmas season timeframe, as it has been doing well there up to this point.
What will the two upcoming films be about? Amy was teased at the end of Sonic 3, but beyond that it’s really anyone’s guess. As we learn more, we’ll be sure to share it all with you, dear readers.
