Splatoon 2 is coming July 21, bringing with it an improved version of the unique multiplayer action found in the Wii U original, new Amiibo, and as revealed during Thursday’s Splatoon 2 Direct broadcast, the Nintendo Switch Online App for smart devices. For Splatoon 2 fans its uses were made plain, as the new SplatNet 2 service will be facilitated by the app and allow for a bevy of features, detailed below:
- Review previous matches, statistics, and examine gear load outs of allies and opponents.
- Schedule for charting upcoming events, including map rotations for Ranked Battles and Splatfests.
- Lifetime inkage tracking; see how much ink you’ve shot! Also displays which real-life monuments would be covered by the amount of ink you’ve expelled over your total playtime.
- Purchase gear and then pick it up at Inkopolis Square.
Beyond Splatoon 2, however, the app will provide other features and services, including match-making and voice chat (remember the whacky headset we showed you guys a while back?). The app is free and will be invaluable to players looking to stay linked to their Switch and multiplayer activities.
