As we roll into February, the January hangover just about gone, the feeling of the new calendar year is distinctly undeniable. You have almost stopped writing “2011” every time you write the date and summer is only four months away! (Or six and a half if you live in Scotland, summer lasts about three days here.) More important than all that is the fact that Nintendo’s next home console, Wii U, will be out by the end of the year. Nintendo said so!
Now that we know it’s coming, the only question is when. We know the console won’t be releasing until after April but any time after E3 is fair game. Will Nintendo opt for a practically unheard of summer launch? Peg for early autumn to beat out the rumoured Xbox 720? Or slide into their comfortable November launch period. It normally treats them well. Normally.

The logical choice would be an early release (Summer) to work out supply kinks (bad parts, design flaws, part scarcity, disk manufacturing problems, etc.), and to test out the Nintendo Network on a smaller user base.
