We’re not sure why Nintendo of America is being coy about 3DS’s eShop launch day availability (perhaps to steal attention after the PSP2 announcement or Iwata’s saving something for GDC) but many Nintendo fans have expressed incredulity over the lack of info. Yet with 30 retail, boxed games coming out in the system’s first two months, do we need an eShop right away? Let us know in the poll below.

There needs to be a third option.
3. Meh. This whole poll is silly since it WILL be there on launch.
Straight from Iwata: eShop in May. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/110128/07.html (sixth block down)
That’s a bit disappointing. Although I do think there will be some sort of shop available at launch.
Just not the eShop or the DSi Ware transfers.
I also think that we will probably get some sort of major update to the shop on the Wii.
I was going off of Nintendo of Europe saying it would be.
Nintendo has not confirmed launch day availability of 3DS’s eshop for North America. Only Europe has.
Also, if it were going to be there at launch, there would have been no reason for all the doublespeak at the 3DS event– they could have just said, “Yes, but we’ll talk about that later.”
Heard it’s there on launch day, you just have to download it. I think it’s their way of getting you online. That’s just background noise I’m hearing though.
I’m not so sure about that. The current rumor is that Nintendo is releasing the eShop in Japan in May, which would be 3 months after its launch. That would be a huge mistake, and I can only hope that it isn’t the case. Because if they don’t get theirs til May, we probably won’t get ours til then either.
Yeah, but that is probably more like the realistic approach. I don’t think Nintendo is ready to launch yet. They obviously have a much improved structure to their online system and servers. We just gotta be patient and enjoy the game cards for now. Nintendo could have launched the 3DS a bit later and had it all complete, but they want to show their investors something by the end of their fiscal year.
May? Seem way to late.
I don’t think its as big of a deal to have it at launch than everybody thinks it is. I would rather wait and have them put as much time and effort into it as possible rather than have them rush through it. Maybe its just me but I’m happy to wait till may for it.
And they better have a 3D movie player available two!!!!
