Fans starved for a new iteration in Rare’s Banjo-Kazooie franchise found a strong option in Playtonic’s Yooka-Laylee. The spiritual successor captured the look and feel of the N64 classic, and has established itself a devoted following. It should come as little surprise then that Playtonic has announced a new title featuring the two characters: Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair!
Surprisingly, The Impossible Lair seems to be taking inspiration from a different Rare classic: Donkey Kong Country! The new adventure features 2D sidescrolling stages with an overhead, 3D overworld linking the stages together. Yooka and Laylee will apparently use a number of moves from their first adventure, and once more Grant Kirkhope and David Wise will be on hand to deliver the score. Characters from the first game will return, while new faces such as Queen Phoebee will debut, as well.
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will release later this year digitally, with a physical release already confirmed. Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more as it develops!

This looks amazing! The original Yooka-Laylee caught some flak for not being polished enough (which is fair) but I found it thoroughly enjoyable anyway. This gives off super-promising vibes of Yooka-Laylee meets Tropical Freeze, which just makes it impossible not to smile.
Here’s hoping we continue to see Playtonic titles pay homage to Rare classics – Jet Force Jemini, Blast Corps, BattleToads, RC Pro Am…
I want Trowzer’s Bad Scale Day.
*gasp* Yes!!
