Spyro fans, rejoice! Your favorite purple dragon is finally coming back in an all-new game. If you want to nitpick, this is the first true original Spyro adventure in The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon back in 2008. We suppose you could include the Skylanders games if you want, but that’s more of an ensemble cast, to be fair. And if you want to include the Reignited Trilogy, well, believe it or not, dear readers… that was already eight years ago. So, no matter how you slice it, Spyro fans have been in a lurch, but thankfully during the recent XBOX Games Showcase, it was revealed that Spyro: A Realm Beyond is coming to consoles everywhere in 2027.
So, what’s A Realm Beyond all about? Here’s the rundown from Microsoft:
When Spyro finds himself stranded, his journey to discover a way home is interrupted by the arrival of a vicious invading force known as the Scavs. Spyro must make new allies and rise to protect this realm before it’s changed forever. Feel the freedom of flight as you soar above vibrant landscapes, weave between treetops, dive off massive landmarks and wing your way through this new realm in Spyro’s boldest evolution yet. Carve your path through the skies and chain together dives, climbs and tight turns as you navigate the world your way.
Handling development duties is Toys For Bob. You might recall that back in 2024, we had reported that Toys For Bob would be splintering away from Microsoft to become its own, independent game studio. It seems that Spyro: A Realm Beyond is a result of that maneuver. It’s been a long time coming, but fans will discover in spring of next year whether or not the wait was worth it when A Realm Beyond comes to Nintendo Switch 2.
